We are hosting a Valentine’s Day get-together on Monday.
Tonight, I baked and decorated our Heart Cake…
1 box white cake mix (and eggs, water, oil as listed on box)
1 package strawberry Jello
1 cup butter, softened
3.5 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup strawberry preserves
for cake —
add dry jello mix to dry cake mix.
prepare cake, as box directs, with eggs, oil, water, etc.
pour into 1 prepared circle pan and 1 prepared square pan.
bake as directed on box.
when cooled and removed from pans, cut circle cake in half, making 2 semi-circles.
place square cake on decorating sheet, turned to make a diamond.
place one semi-circle cake on the top left slant of the diamond, straight side touching straight side.
place one semi-circle cake on the top right slant of the diamond, straight side touching straight side.
cake should look like a heart. 🙂
for frosting —
mix butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and fluffy.
add strawberry preserves. mix until combined.
frost entire cake. sprinkle with red sugar crystals. decorate with peanut M&Ms.
