Watching your pulse…

February 28, 2011

My four-year old woke up with many, many questions about her heart and her blood.  (I LOVE inquisitive mornings like this!)  We discussed how the heart pumps blood through the body, through vessels.  We felt our pulse while sitting still and then again, after we did jumping jacks.  “Mama, I can feel my pulse, but I wish I could see it!”  And after a quick Google search, we discovered this easy experiment…

Take a small bit of Play-Doh and roll it into a ball.

Stick a toothpick into the top of the ball.

Locate the pulse in your wrist and place the ball directly on top.

The toothpick will move (vibrate) as your vessel pulses!

Try it with an open hand and a fist.

Watch how quickly it moves, after a minute of exercise!

🙂

Happy pulse watching!
